OdpowiedzAccording to Bob McKenzie https://www.penguinspitfans.com/carter-rowney-jersey-c-15.html, the Pittsburgh Penguins will probably be without goaltender Matt Murray for the next 2 to 4 weeks.
Monday night’s win for the Pittsburgh Penguins could prove to be a very costly one. During their 5 4 comeback win over the Philadelphia Flyers, franchise goaltender Matt Murray suffered an injury and had to leave the game.
Bob McKenzie is reporting the likelihood is quite high that his status is closer to “week to week” than it is to “day to day”. The Penguins calling up goalie Casey DeSmith from the AHL seems to confirm this theory. At the very least https://www.penguinspitfans.com/tom-sestito-jersey-c-13.html, it shows the Pens are sure Murray’s missing at least one game. Their next game is on Dec. 1 against the Buffalo Sabres.
Hindsight is 20 20. But the Penguins didn’t handle their backup goalie situation well this offseason. Losing Marc Andre Fleury might have been a forced loss https://www.penguinspitfans.com/bryan-rust-jersey-c-14.html, especially with his cap hit. The Penguins have too many high priced players to be able to commit almost 10 million to their goaltenders. Murray’s extension meant Fleury had to go.
However, the Penguins didn’t plan efficiently. Murray’s a heck of a goalie. He’s won two Stanley Cups in his first two seasons in theory he won two as a rookie . However, Murray has yet to handle a full time role as a starting goalie thanks to injuries. Pittsburgh probably should have gotten a more competent backup than Antti Niemi.
What’s even more baffling is guys like Malcolm Subban and Calvin Pickard have been put on waivers this season. Granted, nobody could have seen Subban being outstanding for the Vegas Golden Knights. But why not put in a waiver claim for Pickard or Lack?
For the time being Phil Kessel Jersey, Tristan Jarry will be the starting goalie. The Penguins have a friendly schedule. While they will have games on consecutive evenings with travel to Buffalo and back this weekend, barring an injury, they won’t need a backup goalie again until January.
